The Art of Drinking

12 02 2007

Drinking is an art form and it is important to know some basic phrases when doing this deed. So I’ve learned a couple that should help any beginner in the language of Lithuanian with their drinking!

Ką tu geri? – What’re you drinking?

Koks tavo mėgstamiausias gėrimas? – What’s your favourite drink?

Mano mėgstamiausias gėrimas yra vodka-redbull – My favourite drink is red-bull

man mėgstamiausias alus yra …{insert beer name} – My favorite beer is …

Girta(s) – Drunk…

Alus – Beer

Nupirk man ko nors išgerti / nupirk man gėrimą – Buy me a drink?

Ar galiu nupirkti tau gėrimą?- Can I buy you a drink?

Kokio alaus/ degtinės turite? – What beers/vodka do you have?

Kur yra tualetas, man atrodo aš tuoj vemsiu.- Where’s the bathroom, I think I’m going to puke.

Velnias, tai stipru- Damn that’s strong!

Dar vieną- One more round!

Tu esi alkoholikas| girtas / Aš esu alkoholikas | girtas – I am alcoholic/ drunk | You are alcoholic/ drunk

Cheers! or Į sveikatą!

It should be “KĄ tu geri?” if you want to be exact while using the linthuanian alphabet. And “ManO mėgstamiausias alus yra … “. I think, in this case “As labiausiai mėgstu … alų” would sound even more like real Lithuanian ;)
I believe you should also know “Alaus!”. This word is the easiest way to get a glass of beer in any pub without breaking your tongue ;)

hey, there is no such question as “ka” in Lithuanian..its “ką” so it should be: Ką tu geri?
and if you want to say:My favourite drink is red-bull, you just say: Mano mėgstamiausias gėrimas yra Red-bull. no need to say vodka-somebody tricked you.
My favorite beer is …-Mano mėgstamiausias alus yra(you missed a letter)…
Tu esi alkoholikas| girtas -YOU are an alcoholic/drunk
Aš esu alkoholikas | girtas-I am alcoholic/drunk

When asking to buy a drink sometimes the verb “statyti” is used. Like “Buy me a beer”, will be “Pastatyk man alaus”, but it is actually a slang word, so do not use it. But it is useful to know, if somebody else will use it:)

Slengas? Esi tuo tikras? Nei tai žargonas, nei slengas, mano kukliu manymu.
